Some forms cap uploads at 50 KB — a tight limit that usually needs both lower quality and smaller dimensions. This page is preset to that target so you can drop a photo and download one under it.
The compressor keeps the highest quality that fits, and for a target this small that often means reducing the pixel size too, which at 50 KB looks far better than a full-size photo starved of detail.
Everything runs on your device. Passport photos and ID scans are never uploaded to reach a size limit.
Worked example: a measured run of this tool
We ran a 12-megapixel JPEG photograph (1.89 MB) through this page in a browser, the way a visitor would, and checked what came out. The figures below were measured on the result, not estimated.

What this example does not show: The smaller the limit, the fewer pixels the photo keeps (see Pixel size): judge whether that is enough for your form, not for a print. Similarity is measured at the result’s own size; 1 would mean no difference at all. A photo with more fine detail than this one needs a smaller pixel size to fit the same limit.

Frequently asked questions
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. This conversion runs inside your browser using your own device’s processing power, and the file is not uploaded. Once a tool has been used once (video, text recognition and background removal download their engine from this site the first time), it keeps working when your connection drops.
- My photo looks soft at 50 KB — is that avoidable?
- Partly. 50 KB is very little data for a detailed photo, so some softness is unavoidable, but scaling the image down before compressing keeps what detail remains sharp rather than smeared.
- Which format is smallest?
- For photographs, JPG or WebP. PNG is larger for photos and is better kept for text and line art.
