“File exceeds the maximum size.” The form does not say how to fix it, and the limit differs from one form to the next — 100 KB on one, 2 MB on another. Drop the file here, type the number the form shows, and download one that fits.
The tool reads what the file actually is — a scanned PDF, an iPhone photo, a Word document, a phone video — and uses the right method for it: re-rendering PDF pages, recompressing and resizing a photo, re-encoding a video. It looks for the highest quality that still comes in under your number rather than crushing the file blindly.

Frequently asked questions
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and compressed inside your browser; it never leaves your device. That is deliberate: passport scans, bank statements and contracts should not pass through a stranger’s server just to get smaller.
Which limits do portals actually use?
Each form sets its own number, so type the one it shows. Two we checked: personal Gmail accounts allow 25 MB of attachments (support.google.com/mail/answer/6584), and India’s e-Visa portal accepts supporting PDFs of up to 300 KB (indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html) — both read 24 Sep 2026. It still will not fit — what now?
For a PDF, delete the pages you do not need or split it into parts that each fit. For a photo, reduce the pixel dimensions as well as the quality; a 1,000-pixel-wide photo keeps far more detail at 100 KB than a 4,000-pixel one. For a video, lower the resolution to 720p.
Will the document still be readable?
Text pages need far less data than photographs, so they keep more of their sharpness under a tight limit. Scanned photographs and colour brochures soften as the limit gets tighter; the tool shows you the result before you download so you can judge.
