Extract text from an image

Read the words out of a photograph, screenshot or scan and get text you can edit, search and copy. Choose English, Arabic, or both at once for mixed documents.

Arabic OCR is the part most free tools do badly or not at all. Recognised Arabic is displayed right-to-left and exported to Word with the proper bidirectional settings, so it opens correctly rather than reversed.

The first run downloads the recognition model for the language you picked — around 15 MB for Arabic — after which your browser caches it. Your image itself is never uploaded: recognition happens on your own device.

How to use it

  1. Add a photo, screenshot or scan.
  2. Choose the language: English, Arabic, or both for a mixed document.
  3. Press Extract; the recognition model downloads once on the first run, then is cached.
  4. Copy the text or download it as TXT or Word.

Not for: Handwriting and heavily stylised text — recognition is reliable on clear printed text, less so otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. This conversion runs entirely inside your browser using your own device’s processing power. The file never leaves your computer or phone, which is why it also works when your connection drops.
How accurate is it?
Very good on clear, straight, well-lit text; less so on handwriting, heavy stylisation, or blurred and skewed photos. Straightening the image and cropping to the text improves results markedly.
Why does the first run take a while?
The recognition model for your language downloads once, then stays cached in the browser. Subsequent runs start immediately.
